Moving To Dunfermline: A Quick Area Guide

Once the capital of Scotland, Dunfermline is a wonderful place to live, a town in Fife with an incredibly rich history - so ideal as a destination for any culture vultures out there, with all sorts of amazing historical attractions right on your doorstep.

There’s the restored 15th century Abbot House to explore, a 12th century abbey (also the final resting place of Robert the Bruce!) and St Margaret’s Cave, which you’ll find in the most unexpected of places… a carpark in the middle of the town.

A small stone building serves as the entrance to a tunnel and if you follow the 87 steps down into the earth, you’ll find a small cave, which has been a site of pilgrimage for hundreds of years. St Margaret spent much of her time in Dunfermline, often praying at a shrine in the cave.

Of course, there are countless other reasons to consider moving to Dunfermline and if you work in Edinburgh, it’s the perfect commuter town, just a 40-minute drive away from the capital.

There are also excellent schools in the local area so if you have a young family, you may find exactly what you’re looking for here. There are also two massive public parks, so lots of fun days out to be had.

Popular areas in which to live include the centre of the town (where you’ll find stunning Victorian and Edwardian properties), as well as Headwell and Bellyeoman, north of the town centre and home to some beautiful houses.

To the south, you may find what you’re looking for in St Leonards, populated with terraced stone-built properties. Or if you’d rather live in the suburbs, see what’s on offer in Duloch, which is home to lots of more contemporary homes.
